Must-Try Local Sandwich Shops

DKG Agents' Favorite Places To Grab A Sandwich

Our experienced Realtors are here to help you find the perfect home close to a golf course, a neighborhood with convenient commuter routes, or the best local sandwich shop that leaves you craving more. While it may seem like a sandwich has nothing to do with Real Estate, think again! Shouldn’t your Realtor be the ultimate authority on the neighborhood must-knows? Absolutely! Stay tuned as they take you on a delicious round-up of the best sandwich shops and delis in Bethesda, Kensington, and Silver Spring (video below)!

The first stop is Bethesda, known for its numerous places to grab a formal or informal bite and home of the annual “Taste of Bethesda.” Call Your Mother (8804 Old Georgetown Road) is a local favorite, serving “Jew-ish deli favorites” like wood-smoked bagels from a can't-miss-it pink trolley car. Onsite since 2018, they describe themselves as the place to go for “playful, nostalgic, comfort food with serious flavor.” And, they’re proud to offer online ordering and outside seating to satisfy social distancing guidelines. For educational purposes Wink, our dedicated agents sampled two favorites, the Bacon Sun City and the Royal Palm. Between bites, our agents shared that the YTD median sales price in Bethesda is $893,000 with fantastic homes for sale above and below.

Never wavering in their commitment, our fearless feasters headed off to their favorite, “mom and pop” shop in Kensington, Old Town Market (10251 Kensington Pkwy). Charming co-owner and local Susie Cooper has been there since their family took over the old 7-11 fourteen years ago. They are truly a one-stop-shop, with breads, soup, homemade baked goods, ice cream, and espresso, as well as beer and wine to-go. She kindly treated our Realtors to their famous Chicken Pesto, Susie Special, and Turkey Brie-Jon sandwiches. If you can't wait till Thanksgiving, you’ll definitely want to try the Susie Special (roasted turkey, homemade cranberry chutney, bacon, mayonnaise, lettuce, and Swiss cheese) as a pre-game to the main event! The eatery’s home base is pretty special, too. Kensington, full of antiqued charm and historical features, offers homes in a range of styles and price points.

Our agents, dedicated to their mission and your tastebuds, topped off the trek with a stop at Kaldi’s Social House (918 Silver Spring Ave). In need of an afternoon pick-me-up, the downtown joint’s steaming cup of java does not disappoint. One of ten coffee shops in Silver Spring, according to Trip Advisor, the owner emigrated from Ethiopia -- one of the coffee capitals of the world! In addition to spectacular coffee, food, beer, wine, and cocktails, Kaldi’s is known for its cool, comfy vibe. Our tireless taste-testers tucked into Kaldi’s popular Avocado Toast and sampled a Bacon, Egg and Cheese sandwich on sourdough, affectionately known as the “Hangover Sandwich” to a few of our more “festive” clients. Once again, our agents come through with a few stats about Silver Spring, including the fact that it contains 20 county parks(!) with a YTD median home sale price of $435,000 with lots of fantastic homes above and below. Check out a few of our listings here.

Bottom Line

Many thanks to our agents for their selfless dedication, endless appetites, and interesting tidbits. We love being a resource for our community. Whether it’s helping you find a place to call home or a one-of-a-kind sandwich to nosh on, we are here for you!
